Mercedes-Benz 300 SL

The 300 SL (SL = sport light) was the epitome of the post-war dream car. It was built in two versions: as coupé with the legendary gullwings and as roadster. Powered by a vigorous three-liter six-cylinder engine with 215 hp, this sports car could reach top speeds of up to 240 km/h, depending on its transmission ratio. It cost around 29,000 DM, about five yearly incomes of a normal employee at that time. As a consequence of the limited production number, only 1,400 units of this car were built between 1954 and 1957, the 300 SL is an expensive and highly sought-after collector‘s item these days, in particular the version with the extravagant gullwings.

In the Technik Museum Sinsheim actually several specimen of this fascinating automobile can be admired.
