Doctor Maybach
For this special racing car, shown at the Technik Museum Sinsheim, the chassis of a 1907 Mercedes 45 hp was combined with a gigantic Maybach airplane engine. The huge 6-cylinder-engine with five valves per cylinder has a displacement of 19.5 liters and generates an output of approx. 300 hp at only 1200 rpm.
The so called "Doctor Maybach" has been specially built for races on the legendary oval race track in Brooklands / England. The Brooklands oval with a length of about 5 km and two banked curves was opened in 1907 and was used until the end of the 1930s for races and as test track. The picture shows the car on the racetrack Boxberg together with the experimental car Brutus.
