Half-tracks were a speciality of the German Wehrmacht. Other forces hardly used this type of vehicle. As of 1933 altogether 6 types were developed and built. Since these models were mainly used as tractors, they were categorized by the towing load which could be moved in medium terrain. The smallest type was designed for a towing load of one ton, the biggest for 18 tons. Whereas the small and medium types were generally used as tractors for guns, the larger models were intended mainly to salvage light and medium armoured vehicles.
